With spring training now underway, the Miami Marlins have begun to announce what their plans are for their upcoming spring training games. Included in those reports are the first start that Jose Fernandez will make this spring.
This will be the Marlins second game of spring training, as they will take on the Miami Hurricanes baseball team on Wednesday for their first official scrimmage. Clark Spencer has also announced who will take the hill to face the Hurricanes.
Obviously Fernandez will only throw a few innings, as will anyone else that gets the ball since it is an early spring training game. This will serve as a chance to get their feet wet, and have batters face live pitching in a game situation. I am excited about watching Fernandez and seeing that amazing “defector” pitch that is so nasty.
For me this upcoming week is all about staying healthy, particularly for Giancarlo Stanton and Jose Fernandez. Regardless of the effectiveness of either of these players, if we can make it through the first couple of spring training games without experiencing injuries, it will be a true early season victory.
