Giancarlo Stanton has crushed baseballs all season, and has enjoyed a phenomenal first half. He is tied for the NL lead with 21 home runs on the season, most of which have been absolute bombs. With the Home Run Derby nearly upon us, to get you fired up to see our boy Giancarlo annihilate baseballs on national TV, I present to you his top 5 Home Runs of 2014.

5). 4/12/14

This one off of Jonathan Pettibone traveled 470 feet,  an absolute shot to left center field.  It was of the kind that made you ooh and ah, as he completely unloaded on it , and you knew it was gone the second he made contact.

This was the first of two he would hit that night, but the Marlins ended up losing anyways.

4).  5/08/14

This shot was of the game-winning variety, on an 0-2 count in the top of the 11th inning. Dale Thayer made Giancarlo look silly on the previous pitch, but Stanton had the last laugh, he stayed back on the next pitch, and crushed it to right center field.

He said after the game that he wasn’t even trying to hit a home run, and just wanted to make contact.

3).  4/04/14

His longest of the seasons so far, this ball was absolutely destroyed. He unloaded on an 0-1 pitch, and hit it 484 feet, longest in Marlins Park’s young history.

Yes, a  record-breaking 484 foot moonshot is only his third most impressive this year…

2). 6/16/14

This one still doesn’t make sense. Stanton denied all laws of physics with this line drive to right field off Jason Hammel.

The ball never gets more than 15 feet off the ground, and barely makes it over the wall, after getting there in about half a second.

Rich Waltz and Tommy Hutton were in awe after this one, as were the rest of us.

1). 4/18/14

Bases loaded, no outs, bottom of the 9th, cue the Giancarlo. The clutch factor propels this game-winner to the top of our list. A walk of grand slam, something Stanton has done twice already in his career. I have to say, this is the most excited I’ve been watching a sports game in a long time. It was like we were all waiting for it to happen, and boy did he come through.

Rich Waltz proclaimed Stanton “The hottest hitter in baseball” after this one, I don’t think many people disagreed with him.
