MLB Trade Rumors: Marlins Interested in John Danks?
The Miami Marlins consider themselves buyers at the 2014 trade deadline and have seemed to not have left any stone unturned in their attempt to add a veteran starting pitcher.
Some of the names that the Marlins have already been linked to so far:
The Marlins have not been to culminate any deals, as of yet, for those names listed above and are still scouring the trading blocks of teams that are ready to sell.
According to Jon Morosi of Fox Sports 1, another name has emerged on the Marlins radar, that being Chicago White Sox pitcher John Danks:
Danks is an interesting name for the Marlins to be linked to. He is set to make $28.5MM over the next two seasons, from an extension he signed with the Sox in 2012. Danks has been healthy for the first time in a while in 2014, but has suffered from a drop in velocity.
That dip in velocity has been determinantal to his numbers on the season, as well as his strikeout rate. Danks owns a 4.41 ERA and a 4.63 FIP and xFIP. He’s also seen an uptick in his walk rate, walking 3 hitters per nine innings.
For the hefty contract and the lowly numbers, the Marlins should not have to surrender too much in terms of prospects. However it is very questionable if he would be an upgrade over what the Marlins already have, especially with the high salary.
