Coming off of their first series win of the season, the Miami Marlins traveled to New York to take on the Mets. Thursday was the first of a four game series between the two teams, with the Mets taking a 1-0 lead in the series.

3. 5. 82. Final. 7

This was one of the more interesting games of the season for the Miami Marlins, with them and the New York Mets going back-and-forward trading leads all night.

The Miami Marlins got off to a quick start in this game, taking a 2-0 lead, just three hitters into the game. After Christian Yelich singled and stole second, Giancarlo Stanton sliced a ball to the opposite field for his first home run of the season. It was the 155th of his career, which puts him on top of the Marlins all-time list.

Stanton needs just 600 more to tie Barry Bonds. Let’s hope we see that one day in a Marlins uniform.

Martin Prado extended the Marlins lead to 3-0 on a Martin Prado solo home run in the fourth inning. That lead survived until the bottom of the 5th inning, when Wilmer Flores hit a 3-run bomb to tie the game at 3.

The Marlins quickly responded in the 6th inning, when a Marcell Ozuna walk with the bases loaded gave the Marlins the lead back. J.T. Realmuto, starting in place of Jarrod Saltalamacchia, lined the next pitch to the warning track, but Curtis Granderson made a nice catch to retire him and prevent 3 runs from scoring.

A Lucas Duda double and a Michael Cuddyer single tied the game at 4. Cuddyer scored two hitters later, with A.J. Ramos in the game in relief for Jarred Cosart, giving the Mets a 5-4 lead.

With one out in the 8th, Ichiro Suzuki came to the plate and lined a triple, but was thrown out at home plate on a Dee Gordon grounder to second. The play was reviewed and it was determined Ichiro was safe.

The game was tied 5-5 heading into the bottom of the 7th inning.

Mike Dunn relieved Ramos in the 7th and walked two of the first three hitters he faced, his first two walks of the season. That eventually resulted in a Lucas Duda bloop single giving the Mets the lead, again, 6-5. An infield single by Cuddyer extended the lead to 7-5.

Giancarlo Stanton hit a lead-off double to start the 8th inning, but was stranded on third base, with Michael Morse and Marcell Ozuna striking out with Stanton on third. The Marlins went down quietly in the ninth, resulting in their 7th loss of the season.

Now on to the grades.

Miami Marlins. JARRED COSART. C-. Stats: 5.1 IP, 7 H, 5 ER, 1 BB, 5 SO <p>Jarred Cosart got off to a great start, striking out two in the first inning, taking advantage of a generous strike zone from the home plate umpire. After walking 3 and striking out just one hitter last time out, Cosart turned the tables and was more efficient in the strike zone. A 3-run homer off the bat of Wilmer Flores tied the game at 3 in the 5th. A half inning after the Marlins gave Cosart a 4-3 lead, he coughed it up and gave the Mets a 5-4 lead. The 5 strikeouts and just one walk are encouraging though.</p>. SP

Stats:  0.2 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 0 SO <p>Mike Dunn came into the game with 7 strikeouts and no walks. Two of the first three hitters resulted in his first two walks of the season. This eventually resulted in a bloop hit for Duda, to give the Mets the lead, again. A Cuddyer infield dribbler plated the second run off <strong><a href=. RP. Miami Marlins. MIKE DUNN. F

RF. Miami Marlins. GIANCARLO STANTON. A. Stats: 2/3, HR (1), 2B (3) BB, SO, R <p>Giancarlo Stanton hit his first home run of the season on Thursday, a line drive to the opposite field. It was his 155th of his career, which is now the tops in Marlins history. Stanton scored on a Ozuna walk in the 6th and was stranded on third after a double to lead off the 8th. </p>

B+. Stats: 1/3 2B (2), SB (1), R, SO <p>After missing the last two games, Christian Yelich got the hitting going for the Marlins, collecting a single and stealing second base in front of Stanton’s two run blast.</p>. LF. Miami Marlins. CHRISTIAN YELICH

MARTIN PRADO. B+. Stats: 2/3 HR (1), SO <p>Martin Prado hit his first home run as a Marlin in the 3rd to extend the Marlins lead to 3-0. The homer came after he struck out on a heavy dose of breaking balls in the 1st. </p>. 3B. Miami Marlins

MARCELL OZUNA. D+. Stats: 0/3, 3 SO, BB, RBI <p>Full disclosure: I thought Marcell Ozuna was going to strike out for sure with the bases loaded in the 6th inning. He had two ugly plate appearances before that one, striking out on six total combined pitches in the two at bats. Instead, Ozuna gutted out the at bat and worked a full-count walk to give the Marlins a 4-3 lead. Ozuna struck out again on 3 pitches in the 8th with Giancarlo on third and two outs. </p>. CF. Miami Marlins

A+. Stats: 1/1, 3B (1), R <p>Any grade less than an A+ would be a shame for Ichiro Suzuki tonight. He hit a triple and made a beautiful slide at home plate, just avoiding a tag, to tie the game at 5. </p>. PH. Miami Marlins. ICHIRO SUZUKI

C-. <p><strong><a href=. Manager. Miami Marlins. MIKE REDMOND

C. <p>The offense did a decent job, scoring 5+ runs for the third consecutive game after it was done just one time in the first 7. The starting pitching however continues to struggle and that will be an issue for the team moving forward. Dunn was exceptional this season until tonight, but the bullpen continues to struggle this season.</p>. . Miami Marlins.
