After being swept by the New York Mets in a four-game series, the Miami Marlins look to bounce back against the Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies took game one of the series, behind a big night from first baseman Ryan Howard.

Dan Haren and Jerome Williams came into this game with a combined 14 strikeouts in 25 innings of work in 2015. The two combined for 13 strikeouts in 12 innings on Tuesday night. That’s likely a larger indictment on how the two teams are hitting than on Haren and Williams.

Freddy Galvis got the run scoring started in the bottom of the second inning, driving a two-run shot out of the park to give the Phillies a 2-0 lead. Ryan Howard, who had walked earlier in the inning, scored on the home run.

Giancarlo Stanton‘s solo home run in the fourth inning got the Marlins on the board and within a run of the Phillies.

The Marlins comeback continued in the fifth inning, as Ichiro Suzuki, J.T. Realmuto, and Adeiny Hechavarria knocked back-to-back-to-back singles to tie the game at 2. Dan Haren potentially killed an even bigger inning, not getting a great bunt down and then not hustling to first base, as the Phillies easily doubled him up.

However, the next play the Marlins took the lead, as Dee Gordon drove Adeiny Hechavarrria in on a Ryan Howard fielding error, to give the Marlins a 3-2 lead.

Ryan Howard atoned for that error in the bottom of the 6th inning, as he hit a two-run home run off of Haren, this to put the Phillies back in the lead, 4-3. They would never relinquish that lead.

Jeff Francoeur lined a one-out double and two batters later Ben Revere tripled to extend the Phillies lead to 6-3. Chase Utley‘s sacrifice fly gave the Phills a 7-3 lead.

Despite a one-out Marcell Ozuna double in the 8th, the Marlins were not able to capitalize and cut the Phillies lead, as each Ichiro and Realmuto flew out.

The Marlins went down 1-2-3 in the ninth inning against Jonathan Papelbon, including two strikeouts. Luckily for the Marlins and Philadelphia, Papeldon didn’t grab his crouch in this game.

The loss drops the Marlins to 3-11 for the season, they have dropped 5 games in a row.

Haren learned that the hard way on Tuesday, surrendering a two-run home run to Freddy Galvis to give the Phills a 2-0 lead in the second inning. The home run was the fourth of the season off of Haren. Haren’s terrible bunt in the fifth inning hurt his grade a little. Ryan Howard’s home run in the 6th, the fifth Haren’s allowed on the season, gave the Phillies a 4-3 lead. Haren’s ERA is now up to 3.32 and his FIP at 5.76.
. SP. Miami Marlins. DAN HAREN

Miami Marlins. . D+.
The team falls to 3-11 and the disappointment in 2015 continues. It’s not like the team isn’t trying, but something just isn’t right early on. The starting pitching cannot get past the 6th, the bullpen gives up bunches of runs, and the offense looks completely inept at times. The team’s talent is better than the record, but they need to fix things quickly or we could have another 2012 on our hands.
.
