After finishing up a 4-6 10 game road trip, the Miami Marlins returned home to face the Washington Nationals. Behind another big offensive night from their middle infielders, the Marlins beat the Nationals 3-2.

3. 82. 2. 90. Final

Both Mat Latos and Jordan Zimmerman breezed through the first 3 inning without much damage. Neither pitcher allowed a run or a hit in those first three frames.

Notably, Marcell Ozuna collected a single with one out in the second inning, the Marlins first hit in 10+ innings off of Zimmerman, who had no hit them on the last day of the season in 2014.

Yunel Escobar, in his second time against Latos, lined a double, moved to third on a sacrifice fly by Jayson Werth, and scored on a Bryce Harper fly ball to the warning track. Ryan Zimmerman lined a double to the wall next, but Latos escaped the inning without any more damage. However, it was notable that the Nats were squaring his pitches up pretty well.

The Marlins answered back to tie and take the lead back in the 5th inning. After Marcell Ozuna nearly tied the game with a deep fly ball to center that was run down, Ichiro Suzuki, Adeiny Hechavarria, Mat Latos, and Dee Gordon knocked back-to-back-to-back-to-back singles to give the Marlins a 2-1 lead.

The Marlins first lead of the game was short-lived, as Denard Span singled, stole second, and scored on a Bryce Harper single to tie the game at 2.

In the 7th inning, the Nationals finally hit Latos out of the game, collecting two straight singles with one out to send him to the showers. A.J. Ramos came into relieve Latos and got two former Marlins, Dan Uggla and Reed Johnson, out on just 5 pitches.

Adeiny Hechavarria led the bottom of the 8th inning of with a double, before he advanced to third on a Dee Gordon infield single. Martin Prado collected his first hit of the game and drove Hech in to give the Marlins a 3-2 lead. Unfortunately, Giancarlo Stanton and Michael Morse both got out, not enabling the Marlins to pad their one run lead.

Steve Cishek was able to notch his first save of the season, retiring the Nationals hitters in 1-2-3 order to get the Marlins their 3rd straight win and 6th of the season.

B+.
The Marlins hitters pounded out 9 hits, but only pushed across three runs. Part of that was due to the struggles of Morse and Stanton. The other part was because of some big plays by the Nats D. Their bullpen threw 2 2/3 of shutout ball tonight, only allowing two Morris walks as base runners.
. . Miami Marlins.
