Miami Marlins all-time 25-man roster

The Marlins have been an MLB team for 22 years, and in those 22 years the Marlins have two World Series Championships and a bunch of stars who once wore the teal and black. MLB Network has been doing a “Franchise Four” asking fans what four players they would use to represent each organization. In this article I’m going to do that and more. I’m going to make an all-time Marlins 25-man roster.

Let’s begin with the starting position players.

Catcher: Charles Johnson

Johnson was a Florida Marlins draft pick in the first round of the 1992 MLB expansion draft. Out of the University of Miami, Johnson was a two-time All-Star with the Marlins and was the catcher on the 1997 World Series team. He also won a Gold Glove and hit 167 career home runs with most of them coming in a Marlins uniform.

Next: First base

1^st base: Miguel Cabrera

Miguel Cabrera, or who fans call “Miggy,” was a huge fan favorite in his time in his Miami. He got the love of the fans right away…from the minute he stepped into the batter box in his major league debut. In his debut he came to the plate in extra innings and hit a walk-off hom erun against the Tamp Bay Devil Rays, which was his first career hit. Miggy played on the Marlins from 2003-2007 and in that time made three All-Star games and played a huge role on the 2003 World Series team. He hit 138 home runs In his time in Florida. He was later traded to the Detroit Tigers for prospects.

Next: Second base

2^nd base: Luis Castillo

Luis was on the Marlins from 1996-2005, he represented the Fish in 3 All-Star games, was a world series champion and a gold glove winner. He batted a career .290.

Next: Third base

3^rd base: Mike Lowell.

This is an obvious choice to play third base for the All-Time team. Lowell was a fan favorite when he was with the Marlins and played a major role on the 2003 World Series team and was a three-time All-Star with the Marlins. The Marlins would end up trading Mike to the Red Sox and he ended up winning a second World Series.

Next: Shortstop

Shortstop: Hanley Ramirez.

This might not be a popular pick because of the fall out between the Marlins and Hanley but he is still worthy to be on this all-time team. Hanley was acquired by the Marlins in the Mike Lowell trade. In his first year with the Marlins in 2006 he batted .292 with 17 home runs earning him the Rookie of the Year honors. He’d end up playing five and a half years with the Fish going to three All-Star games, winning a batting title and was in the 30-30 club.

For the outfield I’m just going to put the three best outfielders, no positioning.

Outfield: Giancarlo Stanton.

Yes he’s still on the Marlins right now and is only 25-years-old but he is already one of the best players to ever wear the Marlins jersey. He is the franchise’s All-Time home run leader and is a two-time All-Star. The Marlins signed Stanton to the largest contract in sports history last winter, 13 years and $325 million.

Gary Sheffield

Shef is a nine-time All-Star and spent five seasons in Florida, the most time he spent on any team. He was art of the 1997 World Series team. He hit 112 home runs with the Marlins.

Juan Pierre

The recently retired Pierre had a .303 batting average with the Marlins and stole 167 bases. He was on the 2003 World Series team and played for the Fish from 2003-05 and 2013.

Next: Starting rotation

Rotation:

Kevin Brown

He spent two great seasons in Miami and was an All-Star in one of them. In one of his two years he had a 1.89 ERA and in the other he had a 2.69. Two season seems like a little time to mention him with the All-Time but he was great.

Dontrelle Willis

The D-Train! The high leg kick pitcher was a World Series champion with Florida. He won the 2003 NL Rookie of the Year and was second in Cy Young voting in 2005.

Josh Beckett

Was the World Series MVP for the Marlins in 2003.

Josh Johnson

He had many great years in Florida and was a multiple time All-Star. He was traded in the blockbuster Blue Jays trade.

Al Leiter

In 1996 with the Fish Leiter had a 2.93 ERA with 200 strike outs. He also threw a no-hitter vs the Rockies.

Bench-

Ivan Rodriguez (Pudge)

2003 World Series Champion. A one-and-done Marlin but it sure was a great year.

Cliff Floyd

.294 BA, 110 HR, 409 RBI, 1x All-Star.

Jeff Conine

He was here for both championships and was an All-Star game MVP and is known to be “Mr. Marlin.”

Carlos Delgado

Yeah, you probably don’t think of the Marlins when you think Delgado but he was a great player who once wore a Marlins jersey so he’s on my list.

Edgar Renteria

He has the biggest hit in Marlins history so that alone allows him on here.

Mike Piazza

He spent like two weeks with the team but he gets the Delgado treatment.

Next: Bullpen

Bullpen-

Bryan Harvey

Played three season with the Fish with a 2.50 ERA in that time.

Ugueth Urbina

2003 closer.

Guillermo Mota

2004-2005

Braden Looper

One of the best setup guys in team history.

Trevor Hoffman

He didn’t spend that much time with the Marlins but he, too, gets the Delgado treatment.
