Miami Marlins Game Recap: Marlins Top Mets for First time in 2015

After dropping a heart breaker in the opener of the series, the Miami Marlins are back at it again on Tuesday night, trying to exact revenge on a Mets team that’s gone 5-0 against them in 2015. The Marlins finally topped the Mets for the first time in 2015.

Just like Monday night’s game, there was very little action in the beginning innings of the game. The only memorable things of the first four innings were a boneheaded drop by Giancarlo Stanton on a routine flyball and a Dee Gordon, the Marlins first hit of the game, to lead of the bottom of the fourth. Neither of those led to runs scoring plays.

Both David Phelps and Rafael Montero were both dealing early in the game.

The Marlins got another golden opportunity in the 5th inning, when Michael Morse got on base on a two-base throwing error by Eric Campbell. He never advanced second base, as Montero retired J.T. Realmuto and Ichiro Suzuki, before intentionally walking Adeiny Hechavarria, and then struck out David Phelps to end the inning.

In the top half of the sixth inning, the Mets collected back-to-back two out hits, but Phelps struck out Ruben Tejada to strike out to end the inning.

For the second time in the game, Dee Gordon led off an inning with a double. This one on what should have been a single, but Dee kept running hard and stole second on the play. He scored on a Giancarlo Stanton single after Prado moved him over to third.

Stanton had atoned for his boneheaded error earlier in the game.

The next batter Marcell Ozuna collected an infield hit and then two batters later, J.T. Realmuto collected a run scoring single to expand the Marlins lead to 2-0. Ozuna scored on a wild pitch with Ichiro at the plate, but Realmuto was thrown out at second to end the inning.

New York started the 7th inning with back-to-back singles, sending David Phelps to the showers. A.J. Ramos relieved Phelps and got a huge assist from Dee Gordon on a nice leaping catch at second base to rob Wilmer Flores of a hit and the Mets of a run.

Unfortunately, Dee Gordon didn’t play center field and Juan Lagares tripled over Marcell Ozuna’s head, to clear the bases and tie the game up at 3. Ramos was lifted in favor of Mike Dunn, who quickly got the next two hitters out to get out of the inning with the game tied.

Bryan Morris pitched the 8th for the Miami Marlins and allowed a lead-off double. However, he the runner on third and got out of the inning without any damage, despite a walk two hitters later.

Martin Prado led the bottom of the 8th inning off with a walk, Stanton popped out, missing a hanger that should have been put into the seats. Marcell Ozuna walked to set the Marlins up with runners on first and second and one out.

Michael Morse collected his first hit of the game, and likely his biggest of the young season, driving in Prado to give the Marlins a 4-3 lead.

After blowing a save on Monday night, manager Miked Redmond went right back to his closer, Steve Cishek. Cishek walked Curtis Granderson on 5 pitches, putting a scare into Marlins fans and Red, as he quickly got Brad Hand warming up in the bullpen. Cishek struck out Lucas Duda after a lengthy battle and then retied Eric Campbell to end the game.

He has done a fine job of filling in for Henderson Alvarez, since Alvarez went down. However, entering his 7th inning of work, he looked done, as the Mets started to pick him up better.</p>. SP. B. Stats: 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO <p>Morris allowed a lead-off double, but erased the runner on a nice throw to third on a bunt. His play saved the game for the Marlins, at that stage. Miami Marlins. STEVE CISHEK. B+. Stats: 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO <p>Nice comeback outing for Cishek, despite a lead-off walk to collect the save for the Marlins. The Marlins need him pitching well to have a chance to turn their season around.</p>. CL

Miami Marlins. DEE GORDON. A+. Stats: 2/4, 2B (6) <p>Gordon had a 4th inning double but was stranded, in the 6th inning. He collected a double (his second of the game) on what should have been a single and scored on a Stanton single. Dee also made a nice defensive catch.</p>. 2B

RF. Miami Marlins. GIANCARLO STANTON. B. Stats: 1/4, RBI, R, SO <p>Stanton made an extremely boneheaded fielding mistake in the fourth inning, but atoned for it in the 6th inning, driving in Dee to give the Marlins a 1-0 lead.</p>

C. Miami Marlins. J.T. REALMUTO. B. Stats: 1/3, RBI, SO <p>Realmuto broke out of a mini slump with a run scoring single that drove in Giancarlo to expand the Marlins lead to 2-0. With Salty now gone, the catcher position is Realmuto’s for the foreseeable future.</p>

Miami Marlins. MICHAEL MORSE. B-. Stats: 1/4, RBI, SO <p>Morse saw his batting average dip all the way down to .215 before his big hit in the 8th inning to put the Marlins in the lead. With his track record, the Marlins need not to worry about Morse, over the season, he’ll rebound to his regular self.</p>. 1B

C+. <p>I didn’t really think it was a good idea to let Phelps pitch into the 7th, but it was not a terrible decision. Redmond didn’t do anything to stand out either way in this game. </p>. Manager. Miami Marlins. MIKE REDMOND

. B. <p>The Marlins got out to an early lead in this one and actually build on their lead, unlike past games. This was still not enough for the bullpen, as they blew a 3-run lead. An 8th inning rally sparked them to a victory though.</p>. . Miami Marlins
