Urena falters in first start as Marlins fall to Pirates 5-1

Will Graves, The Washington Times

PITTSBURGH (AP) – The Miami Marlins reassigned third base coach Brett Butler on Tuesday morning and gave the job to Lenny Harris. Manager Dan Jennings promised a smooth transition while believing Butler would better serve the team in the dugout.

There were no major issues for Harris on Tuesday night against Pittsburgh. Then again, he really didn’t have much to do. The Marlins packed the bases for much of the night, but only one crossed home plate in a 5-1 loss.

Miami left 10 men on and went 1 for 6 with runners in scoring position to fall to 3-13 in its last 16 games, including just 2-7 since Jennings replaced Mike Redmond. Pittsburgh scored all five of its runs against rookie Jose Urena (0-1) with two outs while winning its fifth straight. Click here for full article.

Miami Marlins place Michael Morse on 15-day disabled list

Scott Gelman, Fish Stripes

Miami has been plagued by injuries of late and the club will now be without one more starter. The Marlins announced they placed Michael Morse on the 15-day disabled list with a right finger sprain on Tuesday afternoon.

Jose Urena, who will start tonight’s contest against the Pirates, was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans in the corresponding roster move.

Morse has had a slow start to the 2015 campaign, posting a .211/.268/.289 batting line in 37 games to complement two home runs and ten RBIs. Prior to placing Morse on the disabled list, the Marlins chose to have Justin Bour start a handful of contests at first base. Click here for full article.

Miami Marlins shuffle the deck chairs with 2 former Mets

Mike Vorkunov, NJ.com

The Marlins are making another change on their coaching staff and they’re flipping around two former Mets players.

They’ve moved Brett Butler out of his job as the third base coach and reassigning him to be the outfield and baserunning coach. Lenny Harris will now coach third.

This, of course, after they fired manager Mike Redmond last week and put GM Dan Jennings in the job. Click here for full article.

Marlins place slumping Michael Morse on DL

Harvey Fialkov, Sun Sentinel

The Miami Marlins have placed struggling first baseman Michael Morse on the 15-day disabled list with a right finger sprain.

Morse has been mired in a season-long slump, batting just .211 with two home runs and 10 RBI in 128 at-bats with 39 strikeouts. In recent weeks, he has been supplanted at first base by left-handed Justin Bour, who is batting. .365 with two homers and five RBI in 52 offical at-bats.

Morse, a standout at Nova High and World Series hero for the Giants last season, can come off the DL on June 8, as the move is retroactive to May 24. Click here for full article.
