One of these saves was not like the other, but the result sure was the same.

A.J. Ramos shut down the Pirates in the ninth for the second game in a row, this time in far more convincing fashion. and the Miami Marlins made the most of Adam Conley‘s first quality start in four attempts to beat the Pittsburgh Pirates by the final score of 3-2 Wednesday night at Marlins Park.

Conley was as dominant as Giancarlo Stanton was ineffectual, tossing 5 no-hit innings before running his count too high to continue past six frames. Following that though, the Marlins needed three relievers just to get out of the seventh inning, leading to a no decision for the young lefty. David Phelps would get the last two outs of that inning, not to mention a perfect eighth, to earn the win. Only two position regulars managed multi-hit efforts, and Stanton and Marcell Ozuna alike put up 0 for 3 nights. Adeiny Hechavarria drilled the game winning double in the eighth, scoring Miguel Rojas.
The Marlins are once again back to three games above .500, a position they have held in the standings three times since May 16th, and will look to climb back to their season best mark of four over tonight with Wei-Yin Chen on the mound at Marlins Park.
And now we Stat Wrap:
- Ozuna Watch: Hitless again, but on base again with a walk. Two games!
- Stanton returned to the lineup…and batted fifth.
- And went 0 for 3.
- Chris Johnson got another lefty start, and went 2 for 3 with a walk.
- Conley had a no-hit bid through five, and threw six scoreless innings.
- Kyle Barraclough and Mike Dunn threw…scoreless bullpens?
- But combined to allow two runs in the seventh, managing only one out.
- The next five outs? All David Phelps, who earned the victory.
- A.J. Ramos earned his 17th save, and is tied for the MLB lead.
