The Miami Marlins have announced before today’s game with Seattle that they will have one key piece returning to the roster, with another player being DFA’d.

Today the Miami Marlins have announced that Martin Prado has been reinstated from the DL. In order to make room for Prado on the roster, Tyler Moore has been designated for assignment.

After a very short-lived stint on the Marlins roster, we will see if Moore can make his way through waivers. Moore was batting .364/.364/.455 in limited play with the Fish to start the season.

We knew a roster move would be in the works with Prado returning as discussed earlier this week. Moore was mentioned as the probable candidate for being sent down. While with the big league club, Moore helped out with a few timely hits.

The long-time National signed on with the Marlins in the off-season. Due to Prado starting the season on the DL, Moore was able to break camp with the Fish coming out of Spring Training.

The Marlins will be receiving their captain, Prado, back just in time to help out at third base. Though the Marlins have fared rather well in his absence, it will be nice to have Prado back in the clubhouse.

How will he be utilized?

With Prado coming back from a hamstring strain that occurred in the WBC, it will be interesting to see how exactly he is utilized initially.

Though Prado did play a few games in Jupiter with the Marlins Minor League affiliate, I’m sure that Don Mattingly will ease him back into a full time starting role.

Luckily for both Prado and the Fish, this comes at a time where they will be playing an American League team with the DH option available to them.

With this option available, the Fish won’t be required to fully immerse Prado into full time play. After batting .304/.359/.417 in 2016, Prado will be welcomed back to the fish with open arms.

What does Moore’s departure tell us?

With Moore being selected to be sent down, this tells us a few different things. To start, it tells us that the Marlins want to see more of J.T. Riddle. For fans of Riddle, this could mean that he may be a more permanent fixture for the club.

Secondly, this tells us that the Marlins are perfectly content going with a short bench and a deep ‘pen. Being that this was the plan to being the season, I’m not overly surprised that they are sticking to their guns. Especially with how dependent the Fish have been on their relief arms.

Adeiny Hechavarria will be coming back from the DL soon as well. When that happens, we may see Riddle moved to Triple-A, or we may be shocked by an unexpected roster move.
