The production of J.T. Realmuto may go unnoticed but that does not mean it is not important to the Miami Marlins

The only reason some may disregard anything positive from Realmuto would be due to the fact he plays on the last place Miami Marlins. Giving attention to a last place team is hard to justify. Although Realmuto’s performance may change some minds.

Realmuto is currently riding a seven game hitting streak which includes three multi-hit games. He has accumulated 12 hits during this span. Realmuto has also slugged three home runs during this time including two in one game. The Miami Marlins have only won three games during this streak, however Miami only won four games before this streak started.

Singles or Taters

Outside of Realmuto’s three home runs, all of his hits have been singles. While it would be nice to see some doubles or possibly triples, any hit by a player in a Marlins uniform is productive.

Sporting a slash line of .353/.421/.706 with an OPS of 1.127, Realmuto is far and away the most productive hitter at the plate for the Marlins. That may be a bit of misleading as the Marlins have several hitters who have struggled this season. However, J.T.’s production is still impressive.

Realmuto has only struck out four times and walked three times during his streak. This is a bit of trend breaker for the Marlins as they have struck out 247 times this season, the ninth-most in baseball. They have also drawn 84 walks this season, the ninth-fewest in MLB. Realmuto striking out less and walking more than his Marlins teammates could lead to more wins down the line.

More from Marlins News

Realmuto has four RBI and has scored four runs during his hit streak. This has certainly helped the Marlins as they have won three of their past four games. This includes winning the series on the road against the Dodgers and making Sunday’s game against the Rockies the one that will determine who wins the series. If the Marlins can manage another series win it should do wonders for their morale.

The win on Saturday ended the “Realmuto homer to Marlins win” trend. The Marlins defeated the Rockies without a long ball from their catcher. It will be intriguing to see if the Marlins can win again without a Realmuto homer.
