Trevor Richards earned his first career major league win, and the Miami Marlins topped the San Francisco Giants for the second game in a row.

Game Story

Scoring

Trevor Richards didn’t look like he had very good stuff at the beginning of the game. He walked the first two Giants hitters on 3-1 pitches. He then threw a wild pitch to put them both in scoring position. He seemed to settle down a little after that. He got Andrew McCutchen to strike out, allowed Brandon Crawford to bring one home on a groundout, then induced Evan Longoria to ground out to end the frame. Joe Panik‘s run on Crawford’s groundout was the only time Miami Marlins pitching allowed a run.

Derek Dietrich opened the third inning for the Miami Marlins with a single to right field. Brian Anderson followed him by getting hit by a Chris Stratton pitch. J.T. Realmuto lined out, then Justin Bour walked to load the bases. Starlin Castro hit an RBI-single to tie it, then JT Riddle hit a two-RBI-double to take the only lead the Marlins would need.

Batting

The two clubs only combined for nine hits on the day. The Marlins collected six, and the Giants three. Castro was the only player to finish with multiple hits, with a single and a double.

Bour walked twice, matching a career high at 47 this season. He also hit that total last year, but he took 108 games to do it.

Anderson went 1-for-3, raising his average to .311. That ranks him in 10th in the National League. His 78 hits for the season rank him fourth overall, behind Freddie Freeman (85), Nick Markakis (85), and Scooter Gennett (82). Anderson is hitting .474 over his last 10 games, with five doubles, a triple, two homers, and eight RBI.

Realmuto, who dropped to .300 after going 1-for-4, is 11 plate appearances short of qualifying for the major league combined leaderboard. As it stands, if he qualified, he would rank first amongst catchers with his .300 average, second with a .367 OBP, first with a .522 SLG, and first with an .889 OPS. As it stands, he’s fourth in the majors with 54 base hits, second with 13 doubles, and second with three triples.
