Monte Harrison wants to be known as a five-tool player. The centerfielder for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp has been one of the more talked about prospects in the Marlins revamped minor league system this season. At the Double-A level, he has become the organization’s top prospect.
The Miami Marlins have taken their time with Monte Harrison, not rushing him to Triple-A or making the jump to the parent club this season. It’s a waiting game of sorts, one that will pay off in the future.

While Harrison’s position with the organization has remained the same when the new prospect rankings were unveiled on Thursday, he did not make the biggest jump in the minors.
"“The player who’s made the biggest leap is shortstop Jose Devers, the 18-year-old shortstop at Class A Greensboro.,” Frisaro wrote. “The cousin of Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers, Jose Devers is 12th on the Marlins’ list, up from No. 25.”"
Sandy Alcantara and Pablo Lopez, two pitchers who excelled this season in the minors, are now both on the Marlins roster and figure to be part of the future of this rotation. Alcantara is still ranked second on the Top 30 prospect list. Lopez started the second 20th overall, is now 18th.
By contrast, Merandy Gonzalez, who has split time between Jacksonville and the Majors, is no longer on the list after opening the season 16th overall.
Pitcher Nick Neidert, who is on the roster in Jacksonville with Harrison, is the franchise’s third-best overall prospect.
Shortstop Isan Diaz, who was recently promoted to New Orleans, is the eighth-overall prospect for the team.
Harrison was a second-round draft pick of the Milwaukee Brewers in 2014. He was part of the deal, along with Lewis Brinson, Diaz and Jordan Yamamoto for Christian Yelich.
