While the Miami Marlins take on the Washington Nationals at Marlins Park tonight, lets take a look at their recent minor league moves.
Dylan Lee
Dylan Lee, who was the Miami Marlins 10th round pick out Fresno State in 2016, was promoted from the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp to the New Orleans Baby Cakes.
Lee opened the season with the Greensboro Grasshoppers, but was promoted to the Jupiter Hammerheads before getting into a game. In 22 relief appearances with the Sharks, he was 6-2 with a 1.45 ERA, 25 K’s in 31 innings, and a .174 opposing batting average. After moving to the Shrimp, he went 1-0 and didn’t allow a run in 15 innings, walking one and allowing just five hits for a 0.400 WHIP.
Lee’s third promotion in this calendar season begs the question – who are the Miami Marlins about to trade away?
Mike Kickham
Or maybe they just promoted Lee to backfill Mike Kickham’s latest stint on the disabled list. A sixth round pick for the San Francisco Giants in 2010, he’s been with the Miami Marlins organization since the start of the 2017 season.
This year between the Jumbo Shrimp and the Baby Cakes, Kickham is 1-1 with a 4.25 ERA, 31 whiffs in 36 innings, and a 1.19 WHIP to his credit.
Cody Poteet
At the start of the season, the Miami Marlins promoted Cody Poteet from the Hammerheads to the Jumbo Shrimp, then on July 4th sent him back to Jupiter. Today, he was again promoted to the Southern League club.
Poteet was Miami’s fourth round selection in 2015, was the Marlins 15th rated prospect as recently as last year. Currently unranked, he’s put up a 3-12 record this season between the two levels, with a 5.36 ERA, 92 K’s in 100 innings, and a 1.48 WHIP.

Milton Smith is a left-handed hitting centerfielder out of Meridian Community College, and the Miami Marlins 22nd round selection this season. In 21 minor league games between the GCL Marlins and the Hammerheads, he’s slashed .367/.415/.417. Two weeks ago, he took a pitch on the thumb and wound up on the seven day DL. He was activated today and sent back to GCL on a rehab assignment.
Luis Mojica
Luis Mojica is a 6’1″, 190 lb. right-handed pitcher from the Dominican Republic. In three appearances this year with the Batavia Muckdogs, he’s allowed four hits and no runs, striking out three in 3 1/3 innings. He was sent to the GCL Marlins a few days ago, possibly to rehab an undocumented injury. He hasn’t pitched in a live game for over a month.
