Since the last Marlin Maniac roster update, on August 8th, a lot has transpired in the Miami Marlins organization.
Drew Rucinski
After a right-groin strain suffered back in early July, Rucinski had a rehab assignment with the Jupiter Hammerheads and the New Orleans Baby Cakes. On Friday, the Marlins activated him, and he’s since allowed two runs in three innings with the big-league club.
Kyle Barraclough
Barraclough was placed on the 10-day DL with lower back stiffness. Barraclough had struggled in recent days, which seemed to indicate something was off in his delivery. I wrote about it here.
McKenzie Mills
Mills joined the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp from the Clearwater Threshers earlier this week in the Justin Bour deal. In his first game, earlier tonight, he surrendered five earned runs in 2/3 of an inning.
Rafael Ortega
Ortega was called up by the Miami Marlins on August 10th, filling the roster spot left open by Bour’s departure. In five games since, he’s seven-for-24.
Justin Bour
Bour joined the Philadelphia Phillies earlier this week, as noted above, and collected a hit in his first at bat on Sunday. It remains his only plate appearance for the division leaders.
Christopher Bostick
Bostick was acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday for cash considerations, and was called up to the Miami Marlins on Monday after Martin Prado was sent to the DL. He drew a walk in his first plate appearance for the Marlins. More on that here.
Merandy Gonzalez
Gonzalez was called up to the Miami Marlins on Monday to fill the 26th roster spot, allotted to major league teams on doubleheader days. He started the first game of the twin bill, and surrendered three earned runs in 4 2/3 innings on eight hits, taking the loss. He was returned to the Baby Cakes on Tuesday.
Martin Prado
Prado, who has already missed a substantial slice of the season with assorted left-leg ailments, pulled his left quadricep muscle on Monday in the first game of the doubleheader. The Marlins placed him on the 10-day DL. Details here.
Lewis Brinson
Brinson was placed on the 10-day DL with right hip inflammation on Independence Day, and spent 41 days there. He was sent to the Jumbo Shrimp for a rehab assignment on Tuesday. More about that here.
Braxton Lee
Lee was called up from the Shrimp to the Cakes on Saturday. In his three games since, he’s four-for-14 with two runs and an RBI.
Chad Wallach
The Baby Cakes activated Wallach from the seven-day DL. In three games, he’s one-for-12 with an RBI.
Eric Campbell
Campbell was placed on the seven-day DL on Thursday from New Orleans.
Chris Diaz
Also on Thursday, shortstop Diaz was promoted from the Jumbo Shrimp to the Baby Cakes. In three games since, he’s one-for-eight with an RBI.
Jeff Kinley
Kinley was pushed from the Cakes down to the Shrimp on Thursday. He struck out three in two perfect innings of work for Jacksonville on Friday.
Anfernee Seymour
On Saturday, Seymour was promoted from the Jupiter Hammerheads to the Jumbo Shrimp.
Luis Pintor
Three days after a demotion from Jupiter to Greensboro, Pintor was promoted two levels to the Jumbo Shrimp. That was Friday. Since then, he’s only gotten into one game, striking out in his only at bat.
Reilly Hovis
Hovis was sent down a level from Jacksonville to Jupiter on Thursday. In his only appearance since, on Saturday, he allowed a run in an inning of work, striking out one and allowing two hits.
Stone Garrett
Garrett just completed a four-game rehab assignment with the GCL Marlins, going five-for-15 with two runs, a double, two triples, one homer, and five RBI. After getting reactivated by the Hammerheads on Tuesday, he went three-for-five with a run, a double, a triple, an RBI, and a stolen base.
Jhonny Santos
Santos was sent from the Hammerheads to the Grasshoppers on Tuesday. He had slashed .196/.245/.265 in 28 games for Jupiter after starting the season with Greensboro.
Corey Bird
After rehabbing with the GCL Marlins and the Batavia Muckdogs, Bird was activated by the Hammerheads on Monday. Later, he was one-for-four with a run and two strikeouts against the Dunedin Blue Jays.
Travis Neubeck
After spending three weeks on the DL, Neubeck was sent to the GCL Marlins on a rehab assignment on Friday. He pitched a scoreless inning of relief later that day against the GCL Astros.
J.C. Millan
Millan has spent time this season at four different levels of Miami’s system. On Thursday, he was activated from the seven-day DL and sent to the Hammerheads. He’s gone three-of-12 in four games since, with a homer, and two RBI.
Steven Farnworth
Farnworth was sent from the Hammerheads to the Grasshoppers on Thursday. This was after Farnworth allowed five runs in 2/3 of an inning after an earlier promotion from Greensboro.
Garvis Lara
Lara was activated from the seven-day DL by the Grasshoppers on Tuesday. He has slashed .214/.272/.336 in 68 games for Greensboro this season.
Samuel Castro
Castro, after a two-day rehab assignment with the GCL Marlins, was reactivated by the Grasshoppers on Tuesday.
Bubba Hollins
Nobody in the Miami Marlins system has been moved more than Bubba Hollins over the last few months. For the seventh time this year, he was reassigned from one affiliate to another, this time from Greensboro back to Batavia. In 37 games between the Hammerheads, the Grasshoppers, and the Muckdogs, he has slashed a .159/.262/.212 line.

Ricardo Cespedes
Also on Tuesday, Cespedes was assigned to the Muckdogs from the Grasshoppers. Cespedes has slashed .236/.288/.331 in 39 games between Batavia, Greensboro, and Jupiter.
Ryan McKay
McKay was assigned to Batavia from Greensboro on Thursday. On Saturday, he struck out three in two shutout innings, allowing the Williamsport Crosscutters one hit.
Ynmanol Marinez
On Saturday, Marinez was promoted from the DSL Marlins to the GCL Marlins, a very unconventional move. In his first two games, he was one-for-10 with two strikeouts.
Juan Reyes
Reyes was activated from the 60-day DL on Saturday. In his first game action of the season, later that day, he allowed three runs and failed to retire a single batter for the DSL Marlins.
