There were a few notable moves in the Miami Marlins minor league system on Wednesday and Thursday.
Justin Twine
Justin Twine, who had been rocking the ball since his promotion to the double-A Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, was placed on the seven-day disabled list retroactive to Tuesday. In 28 games at the two-A level, he had been hitting .402/.433/.571, with 10 extra base hits, 21 RBI, and 15 multi-hit games. Twine was Miami’s second round selection in 2014.
Ryan Newell
Jumbo Shrimp right-handed reliever Ryan Newell was placed on the DL today. In nine appearances with Jacksonville this season, he has kept opponents to a 2.70 ERA despite a 1.80 WHIP and an oppBA of .341. Newell has been with the Miami Marlins organization since they chose him in the seventh round of the 2012 draft.
Bryson Brigman
Brigman joined the Miami Marlins system for left fielder Cameron Maybin at the trade deadline. In 17 games for the Jupiter Hammerheads, he has impressed with a .338/.368/.394 slashline, with four doubles, five RBI, and four stolen bases in four attempts. A third round selection by the Seattle Mariners in 2016, the shortstop was promoted to the Jumbo Shrimp. It’s his highest designated level so far. Brigman is the Miami Marlins current number 26 prospect.
Jose Pena
Pena, a 27-year-old right-handed pitcher from Guayubin, DR, was released from the Jumbo Shrimp this afternoon. After spending nine seasons in the New York Yankees’ system, he elected free agency prior to the 2018 campaign, and signed a deal with the Miami Marlins. In 35 games this season between the Jumbo Shrimp and the New Orleans Baby Cakes, he has a 2-3 record and a 4.73 ERA. He’s held batters to a .210 oppBA and a 1.47 WHIP.

Gunnar Schubert
Gunnar Schubert was the Miami Marlins 28th round pick in 2018. A shortstop from Auburn, WA, he’s slashed .248/.311/.347 in 37 games with the Batavia Muckdogs. Today, the Marlins promoted him two levels, to the Hammerheads.
Marcos Rivera
Rivera is a 21-year-old shortstop from Bani, DR. This is his fourth season in the Miami Marlins system, and his first at the middle-A level with the Greensboro Grasshoppers. In 110 games, he has a .232/.277/.365 slashline. He was placed on the DL today, retroactive to Tuesday.
Denis Karas
Karas was Miami’s 10th round selection in 2017. The Lafayette, CA native, a second baseman, had spent this season with the Muckdogs. In 55 games, he’s holding down a .223/.294/.316 slashline. He was moved up a level today, to the Grasshoppers.
