With the Miami Marlins set to expand their roster in the next week, is pitcher Sandy Alcantara the one player everyone in Major League Baseball needs to know.

Sandy Alcantara was named the Miami Marlins player on a list by MLB.com’s Jonathan Mayo and Jim Callis and Mike Rosenbaum as the player we all should know about when teams expand their rosters next week.

More from Marlins News

"“Starting on the first day of the month, all 30 teams can expand their rosters at the big league level, adding as many players from their 40-man roster as they wish,” the trio wrote.“For teams out of the race, it can be a great opportunity to give someone an extended audition and first taste of the big leagues. For teams hoping to play into October, roster expansion can provide an extra boost for that playoff push.”"

Alcantara was the centerpiece of the trade that sent outfielder Marcell Ozuna to St.Louis before the start of Spring Training earlier this year. The Marlins took their time to bring him up to the main roster as control was an issue for the hard-throwing right-hander.

The right-handed pitcher is currently ranked by MLB Pipeline as the organization’s No. 2 prospect.

"“The hard-throwing right-hander earned the win in his Marlins debut (also his first big league start) on June 29, but subsequently landed on the disabled with a right axillary infection,” the MLB.com story states.“Now healthy and pitching well at Triple-A New Orleans, Alcantara should receive an extended look in Miami’s rotation next month as the organization looks towards 2019.”"

It is believed the 22-year-old could be the ace the Marlins are looking for and should anchor a rotation that should include Pablo Lopez and Trevor Richards next season. The Marlins could have rotation comprised of first and second-year players in 2019.

Alcantara won’t be the only pitcher fans should know. Zac Gallen could receive a call from New Orleans. Nick Neidert has been tearing it up in Double-A Jacksonville and leads the Southern League in wins this season.

The MLB.com story evident recognized that the National League East had solid pitchers who will be stars in the future. Kyle Wright of Atlanta and Ranger Suarez of Philadelphia were also named to the list of 30 future prospects.

There is a caveat to the story and list as the experts wrote this was a list of players that could receive a call-up, but were not guaranteed a spot on any time in the Majors.
