The Miami Marlins continue to show they are ready to make a splash in the international pool as they look to sign three Cuban prospects to add to their minor league system.

The Miami Marlins are on the verge of acquiring Cuban phenom Victor Victor Mesa and his younger brother Victor Mesa Jr.  The older sibling is considered the top international prospect in the major leagues as he displays star potential.

The 22-year-old is a superb outfielder with exceptional speed and power who has played in Cuba’s top league.  In fact, in 2016-17 as a 20-year-old for his Matanzas team, he hit .354 with 7 home runs, 44 RBI’s and a whopping 40 stolen bases in 50 attempts.

"As Baseball America’s Ben Badler states, “Victor Victor is the best young Cuban prospect to become available since Yoan Moncada”."

Some fans may recall their first glimpse of Victor Victor playing in the 2017 World Baseball Classic.  His legendary father also managed Cuba in the 2013 World Baseball Classic.

On the other hand, the younger Victor is 17 years young and is a very raw prospect.  He is a switch-hitting outfielder with a decent arm and a potential to hit.  Mesa Jr. played for Cuba’s 18U National team and slashed .320/.308/.360 for his team in Thunder Bay.

He’s more of an unknown and is not nearly as highly regarded as his big brother, however, both could be signed as a package deal.  Many baseball enthusiasts have raved about how their father is a true baseball legend in Cuba.  Maybe they can carry over some of that success to Miami and help us to win a World Series Championship again one day.

Signing these two international players would certainly be a significant move for the Marlins as we add some Cuban flavor to South Florida.  Both of them participated in a Showcase on October 5 at Marlins Park and scouts were thoroughly impressed.

The plan is for them to be a natural fit with the organization such as we saw with fellow Cubans, the late Jose Fernandez, and Adeiny Hechavarria.

Currently, the Marlins are the favorites to sign the pair.  Reports show due to the Marlins recent trades of Cameron Maybin, Brad Ziegler and Kyle Barraclough for cash, they have the most international bonus pool money available to offer.  The Orioles were the leaders in that department for a few weeks but the Marlins finally surpassed them.

Hopefully, we can make a huge splash by signing the Mesa brothers which in turn will boost ticket sales as well as improve our depleted farm system.

Next. No, the Marlins will not sign Manny Machado. dark
