1. Miami Marlins SP Trevor Rogers
Miami Marlins ace? Frontrunner for the NL Rookie of the Year? Potential NL Cy Young Award candidate? If those three particular questions don’t describe how impactful Trevor Rogers has been so far this season for the Marlins, then I don’t know what will.
Plain and simple, Rogers has been outstanding so far this season. Entering his start on Monday night, Rogers sported a 6-2 record with a 1.74 ERA through nine starts, by far an improvement over his performance from the 2020 season in which he debuted. Still sporting a 10+ K/9, it’s also encouraging to see that Rogers has improved on allowing less hits and walks per nine from last season.
Rogers currently leads the Marlins starting rotation in wins, ERA, and strikeouts, while also leading the entire team in WAR at 2.0. His success is also noticeable on the national stage as he ranks 5th in all of baseball in ERA.
Rogers hasn’t just been dominant recently, but for the entire season as well. If you need a deeper look at his early success, it was evident as to why he was selected as the NL Rookie of the Month for the month of April. Also, if had to guess, he might be the frontrunner once again for the month of May.
There is no absolutely no question as to whom has had the biggest impact on the Marlins 2021 season up to this point, it’s Rogers.
Is this level of current production sustainable going forward? To be honest, based on the way he’s currently pitching, I wouldn’t bet against him.
There is no question that these five players have had a massive impact on the 2021 Miami Marlins so far. Based on the way they’re playing as well, they might not be stopping anytime soon either.
