Miami Marlins: Why Can’t the Fish Shake the Injury Bug?

The Miami Marlins, despite performing well, can’t seem to get rid of one thing so far in 2021, injuries.

The Miami Marlins winning streak came to an end on Tuesday, as they lost to the Phillies 2-0. This was after Sandy Alcantara pitched well allowing two earned runs on two hits in 8 IP. The Marlins however left 6 runners on base as their offense stagnated.

The Fish’s offense was not the only unlucky part from Tuesday as we learned from Marlins GM Kim Ng that Brian Anderson will be out “at least several weeks.” She also mentioned that surgery was a possibility. Anderson for the year was batting at a .250 AVG, to pair with a .687 OPS. For the last 7 days, Anderson had been batting at a .471 AVG with a 1.297 OPS.

This is awful news for the Marlins who rank in the bottom half of the league in every major offensive category.

The Miami Marlins suffered a scare on Tuesday night.

Just in case the Anderson news didn’t sadden you before the game started on Tuesday, Jazz Chisholm seemed to have hurt his ankle in the Bottom of the 8th. The silver lining is that it does not appear as of yet that this will hinder Jazz too much.

The replacement options the Marlins have for both players are not necessarily known however for their offensive prowess.

Jon Berti already took over for Anderson in the previous two games, but is batting at a .182 AVG for the year. Isan Diaz, who was activated Tuesday from the IL, can play both third and second base, but we however will most likely only see him at the second base spot.

If the current Marlins pitching staff continues to pitch the way they have, the Marlins will continue to be in every game. Going forward however, they will need to put some runs on the board in order to win.
