With the July 30th MLB Trade Deadline now officially under two weeks away, questions are beginning to rise as to what the Miami Marlins in particular will do.

Coming into play on Sunday, the Marlins stood at 40-51 overall, and last in the NL East, 8.5 games behind the Mets for first place. While they aren’t considered officially out of the wide-open race in the division in 2021, things certainly don’t look promising for Miami who has dealt with injuries all season long.

We’ve talked before about how the Marlins may potentially be one of the most active teams at this year’s deadline, solely due to the amount of potential trade candidates they currently possess. On Sunday, a report reaffirmed that thought, while also potentially providing some insight on what Miami may choose to do over the next two weeks.

The Miami Marlins will be active at the 2021 MLB Trade Deadline.

According to a report on Sunday from MLB Network insider Jon Heyman, the Marlins are expected to be very active over the next two weeks leading up to the 2021 MLB Trade Deadline.

It’s clear the Marlins will most-likely be massive sellers, with starting center fielder Starling Marte arguably the biggest piece, but could they potentially buy as well? While it’s highly-unlikely at this point that the Fish will be playing postseason baseball come October, Miami still possesses a team ready to compete now with a nice roster mix of veterans, star younger players, and numerous top prospects ready to contribute.

Because of this, it makes sense for Miami to buy as well, as long as they get back major league ready pieces that will ready to make a run in 2022 alongside numerous younger names including Alcantara, Rogers, Lopez, Chisholm, Sanchez, and more.

The Miami Marlins appear set to be one of the most active teams in baseball at the 2021 MLB Trade Deadline. When looking at what they should do, both buying and selling to compete in 2022 as the focus makes a lot of sense for a team with numerous pieces already set.
