The Miami Marlins have a member of the organization selected to the MLB Prospect Team of the Week once again, and if you’ve seen or paid attention to any of the FCL Marlins’ games over the past week, it’s clear that the player in question is Osiris Johnson.

Miami Marlins No. 27 prospect Osiris Johnson selected to MLB Prospect Team of the Week.

The Marlins No. 27 overall prospect according to MLB Pipeline, Johnson struggled to begin the 2021 minor league campaign playing in Low-A with the Jupiter Hammerheads. Slashing .146/.214/.215 with two home runs across 37 games, Johnson was sent to Rookie Ball where he has dominated pitching since.

Playing with the FCL Marlins in the Florida Complex League, Johnson has slashed .333/.415/.754 through 15 games, which includes five home runs, seven doubles, and 22 RBI’s. Looking at this past week alone, Johnson went 6/17 at the plate with five runs, three home runs, and 10 RBI’s which included a three-homer, seven-RBI game last Monday.

As expected, this was more-than-enough for Johnson to be selected to MLB’s Prospect Team of the Week.

A former second round pick by Miami in the 2018 MLB Draft, the 20-year old utility man has spent time at multiple positions across two different minor leagues levels this season (2B, 3B, CF, DH).

After missing both the 2019 and 2020 seasons (injury and no minor league season), it certainly appears that Johnson is beginning to get things going offensively, which in turn should earn him a call-up back to Low-A in the near future.

It certainly appears that Johnson is playing some of the best baseball of his young professional career at the moment. Still only 20-years old, Johnson is still a ways away from factoring into Miami’s potential big league plans, but there is no denying that what he has done over the last two weeks is certainly garnering some attention when looking at the Marlins farm system overall.
