After making two moves on Wednesday flipping Starling Marte to Oakland and Yimi Garcia to Houston, the Miami Marlins have made their first move on Friday, the day of the 2021 MLB Trade Deadline.

Miami Marlins trade outfielder Adam Duvall to the Braves.

The Marlins have made a move within the NL East trading outfielder Adam Duvall to the Atlanta Braves. In return, the Marlins received catcher Alex Jackson.

Duvall was currently in year one with Miami after signing with the team as a free agent back in the offseason. The 32-year outfielder was slashing .229/.277/.478 with 22 HR’s, 68 RBI’s, and 5 SB’s across 90 games.

Still under team control for another season, Duvall was a potential 50/50 trade candidate with the option that Miami would opt-to keep the veteran slugger in hopes of having him for the 2022 season. Duvall now goes back to Atlanta where he played the previous three seasons with the Braves slashing a combined .231/.290/.488 with 26 HR’s and 52 RBI’s in 131 games.

In return, the Marlins are receiving Jackson, a 25-year old catcher currently slashing .287/.366/.694 in Triple-A with 11 HR’s and 36 RBI’s. Jackson has split time between the major and minor leagues the past three seasons in very limited action.

It was previously unknown as to if Miami would trade any of their multiple trade candidates within the division, a crowded NL East that appears to be wide-open at the moment.

Regardless, Duvall now returns to Atlanta where he has had previous success in hopes that the Braves will be making a run at the NL East division crown once again. Miami on the other hand receives a big league ready catcher who can instantly step in and contribute at the major level level from day one.

The Miami Marlins have now made their third move of the 2021 MLB trade season, but are they done?
