As we are mere hours away from the 2021 MLB Trade Deadline, the Miami Marlins still have the potential to make multiple moves, both buying and selling.

However, according to one report on Friday morning, it appears that one prominent Marlins trade candidate in particular will not be on the move.

Miami Marlins first baseman Jesus Aguilar not expected to be traded.

According to a report from MLB Network’s Mark Feinsand, Marlins first baseman Jesus Aguilar is not expected to be traded before the 4 pm ET deadline.

Aguilar has been a massive part of the Marlins offense during the 2021 season as he is currently slashing .268/.332/.475 across 343 at-bat’s. The 31-year old slugger has also hit 18 HR’s on the year, while also leading the NL with 75 RBI’s.

When looking at the Marlins roster going into the 2022 season, this is a move that makes sense. With the DH likely back in the NL next season, Aguilar would surely takeover as Miami’s everyday designated hitter. However, if the DH is not back, there is a potential for the first base position for the Marlins to be too crowded with No. 6 prospect Lewin Diaz and Garrett Cooper also at the position.

Still under team control for the 2022 season, it was obvious that Aguilar would receive interest from multiple teams needing a first baseman or DH, but it appears that Miami intends on keeping him around for next year. While there is a potential for more Marlins’ players to be on the move today, it appears Aguilar is not likely to be one of them.

The Marlins now appear set to enter the 2022 season with Aguilar and Diaz as likely first base and DH options (if DH is back), while Cooper will most-likely takeover at a corner outfield spot.

As the clock continues to tick closer to the 4:00 pm ET deadline, will the Marlins make any other notable moves?
