With the offseason quickly approaching for the Miami Marlins, focus begins to shift toward the moves that the club will decide to make over the next couple of months.

After a disappointing 2021 campaign that followed a 2020 NLDS appearance, the Marlins roster has the potential to look different next season depending on the moves that the club makes in the offseason. However, what moves will the club make?

What positions will the Miami Marlins target in the offseason?

When looking at which positions the Marlins should target to add-to in the offseason, there are arguably three in particular that stand out above the rest as listed below:

1. Catcher

It seems likely that the Marlins will have a new primary catcher for the 2022 season. After both Jorge Alfaro and Alex Jackson have struggled in the big leagues this season, Miami will likely look to acquire a starting catcher via either a trade or free agent signing early-on in the offseason. When looking at potential options that would be available, there are a few intriguing options as both trade targets and free agents.

2. Outfield

Two of the Marlins 2022 outfielders appear set in Jesus Sanchez and Bryan De La Cruz. Both have impressed since being called-up, and can essentially be a guarantee for one to be a starter, while the other is the fourth outfielder. Acquiring a star outfielder has been talked about often this season, and it makes sense that Miami acquires at-least one, if not two, in the offseason.

3. Closer

Adding to the bullpen will always be a focus of the offseason, but it would make since for the Marlins to acquire a legit closer over the next couple of months. The Marlins have used a combination of Yimi Garcia and Dylan Floro so far this season in a closer role in what was their first-ever closing experience. Miami will certainly add to their already impressive bullpen this offseason, and acquiring an experienced closer is a move they should make.

There is the potential for a lot of change on the Marlins roster this offseason with a chance for multiple roster additions. While there are numerous potential players to acquire, adding to these three positions make the most sense of all.
