After making his major league debut with the Miami Marlins in limited action a year ago, Jordan Holloway played a key-role in the Marlins bullpen for an early-part of the 2021 season.
Miami Marlins 2021 Season Review: RHP Jordan Holloway
As mentioned previously, Holloway began the 2021 campaign at the major league level where he got off to a fast start pitching 10 consecutive scoreless innings across his first five games. Pitching primarily in a multi-inning middle-relief role, Holloway would go-on to make two starts as the Marlins “opener” in mid-May that were both strong as well.
Ending the month of May with a 2.55 ERA, the right-hander landed on the 10-day IL, and was sent to Triple-A Jacksonville on a rehab assignment where he would remain until June 30.
Recalled on June 30 from Triple-A, Holloway would make the start that day for the Marlins in Philadelphia allowing five runs across three innings pitched. Optioned to Jacksonville a few days later, Holloway would be recalled & optioned three more times during the month of July in which he posted a combined 3.52 ERA across 15.1 innings pitched in four games, one of which was a start.
Making his last appearance at the major league level on July 28, the 25-year-old would make 13 appearances (4 starts) for the Marlins in the big leagues where he posted a 2-3 record with a 4.00 ERA. Pitching a total of 36 innings, Holloway would strikeout a total of 36 batters, but would walk 26 total (6.5 BB/9).
As mentioned previously however, the rookie right-hander also spent time with Triple-A Jacksonville this season. Making a total of eight appearances with the Jumbo Shrimp (six starts), Holloway would post similar numbers to the ones that he saw in the major leagues posting a 4.88 ERA across 31.1 innings pitched with 14 walks and 29 strikeouts.
Ending the season with Low-A Jupiter, Holloway would make two appearances where he allowed three runs across two innings.
Holloway enjoyed a solid rookie season at the big league level for the Miami Marlins in 2021, and was a key member of the bullpen at times, especially early-on. Looking ahead to the 2022 campaign, Holloway is likely a candidate to fill a similar role in the Marlins bullpen next season.
