Miami Marlins 2021 Season Review: 1B Jesus Aguilar

Beginning the 2021 season as Miami’s everyday first baseman, Aguilar started the campaign with a phenomenal month of April where the veteran appeared in 25 games slashing .291/.385/.523. Aguilar collected a hit in 20 of 25 games during April, as well as hitting five home runs with 24 RBI’s.

Aguilar would go-on to appear in almost every game for the Marlins during the month of May and June, and would enjoy similar success driving in a total of 29 runs across 51 games. Posting a .691 OPS during that span, Aguilar was cemented as one of the top run-producers in the big leagues, and would enter the month of July as a potential trade candidate around the league.

As you likely know by now, Aguilar remained with Miami post-trade deadline, and would enjoy a phenomenal month of July, similar to his success in April. Slashing .294/.368/.541 with six home runs and 24 RBI’s during that span, the first baseman was among the major league leaders in RBI’s, as well as tops in baseball at one point in the category.

After the trade deadline, Aguilar would appear in 30 games from August 1 to September 5 where he posted a .747 OPS with four home runs and 16 RBI’s before suffering an injury that ended his season.

For the 2021 season overall, Aguilar appeared in a total of 131 games with the Marlins in which he slashed a combined .261/.329/.459 with 22 home runs and 93 RBI’s, even tying for the team-lead in home runs. Collecting a total of 117 hits, Aguilar added 45 total extra-base hits with 46 walks and 93 strikeouts across 510 plate appearances.
