Miami Marlins: How Prospects Performed in the 2021 Arizona Fall League

The 2021 Arizona Fall League has now officially passed with each of the nine Miami Marlins‘ prospects providing different impacts for the Mesa Solar Sox in their run to the AFL championship.

Miami Marlins’ prospects impressed in the 2021 Arizona Fall League

Here is a look at how each Miami Marlins prospect performed during the 2021 Arizona Fall League, starting with one of the top overall players from this season in the AFL.

OF JJ Bleday

One of the top overall players in the 2021 Arizona Fall League was JJ Bleday, the Marlins No. 5 prospect and No. 71 overall. Earning Co-Hitter of the Year and Fall Stars Game MVP honors, Bleday appeared in 24 games with Mesa in which he slashed a combined .316/.435/.600 with five home runs and 24 RBI’s. Of Bleday’s 30 total hits, half went for extra-bases, as well as the outfielder drawing 20 walks to 23 strikeouts.

OF Kameron Misner

The Marlins No. 22 prospect, Misner appeared in 23 games with Mesa in which the 23-year-old slashed .205/.373/.513 with an impressive seven home runs, 14 RBI’s, and four stolen bases. Seeing time at all three outfield positions defensively, 10 of Misner’s 16 hits went for extra-bases, as well as the 23-year-old drawing 20 walks to 34 strikeouts.

RHP Evan Fitterer

Miami’s No. 24 prospect, Fitterer made only two starts with Mesa pitching a total of seven innings. Across those two starts, Fitterer posted a 1-1 record with a 3.86 ERA and 1.714 WHIP, as well as striking out nine batters compared to four walks.

1B Troy Johnston

Johnston appeared in 18 games with Mesa where the 24-year-old slashed an impressive .296/.383/.338 with 11 RBI’s and two stolen bases. Johnston collected a total of 21 hits with nine walks and 21 strikeouts, as well as seeing a majority of his time defensively at first base.

C Will Banfield

Banfield saw time in 14 games with Mesa where the former second round pick slashed .231/.326/.359 with a home run and eight RBI’s. Banfield posted a 12% caught stealing percentage defensively, as well as drawing five walks compared to seven strikeouts at the plate.

RHP Justin Evans

Evans made six relief appearances with Mesa in which the right-hander posted a 0-1 record with a 10.29 ERA across seven innings. Evans posted four walks with six strikeouts, as well as a 2.429 WHIP.

LHP Josh Simpson

Simpson made a total of nine appearances with Mesa in which the southpaw posted a 6.08 ERA across 13.1 innings pitched. Collecting one save, Simpson struck out 18 batters compared to 10 walks, as well as posting a 1.425 WHIP.

LHP Jefry Yan

Yan made nine total appearances with Mesa in which the left-hander posted an 8.31 ERA across 8.2 innings pitched. Yan also posted a 1.962 WHIP, as well as striking out 18 batters compared to nine walks.

LHP Zach King

King made four total appearances (two starts) with Mesa in which the southpaw posted a 6.48 ERA across 8.1 innings pitched. Posting a 2.400 WHIP, King struck out a total of 10 batters compared to nine walks.
