After acquiring right-hander Louis Head in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays almost two weeks ago, the Miami Marlins have made their second move of the offseason by acquiring a free agent outfielder on Sunday afternoon.

Miami Marlins sign free agent outfielder Avisail Garcia

According to Craig Mish of the Miami Herald, the Marlins have agreed to a del with free agent outfielder Avisail Garcia.

A 10-year MLB veteran, Garcia spent the 2021 season with the Milwaukee Brewers where he slashed a combined .262/.330/.490 with 29 home runs and 86 RBI’s across 135 games. Garcia has also seen time with the Brewers, Rays, White Sox, and Tigers during his career where he is a career .270/.325/.431 hitter.

While Garcia will likely play one of the corner outfield spots for Miami in 2022 and beyond, the veteran is also a DH option, while also a candidate to see time in center field as he spent a majority of the 2020 season there with Milwaukee.

According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the reported deal between the Marlins and Garcia is for four years and worth $53 million.

As mentioned in the two previous tweets from both Mish and Passan, the Marlins are likely not done making moves anytime soon either as Miami has money to spend, as well as a farm system capable of pulling off a few signifiant trades.

As for what moves those might be, that obviously remains to be seen, but it appears the acquisition of Garcia is happening after it was reported a couple of weeks ago that the Marlins had interest, alongside a few other free agent outfielders such as Nick Castellanos and Chris Taylor.

With it becoming increasingly likely that transactions will freeze on December 1, the next couple of days will likely see numerous moves throughout baseball. Will the Miami Marlins make any more significant moves between now and then?
