Signed by the Miami Marlins as a free agent last November, right-hander Luis Madero began the 2021 season in Triple-A. Madero would be called-up multiple times throughout the 2021 season, one that saw the 24-year-old make his MLB debut.

Miami Marlins 2021 Season Review: RHP Luis Madero

As mentioned previously, Madero would begin the 2021 campaign with Triple-A Jacksonville, but would only make one appearance with the Jumbo Shrimp before receiving his first big league call-up. Debuting with the Marlins on May 10, Madero pitched two scoreless innings of relief in his first outing, but would struggle in his next appearance on May 11 where he was DFA’d shortly after.

Sent outright to Triple-A Jacksonville a few days later, the right-hander would be called up to Miami in mid-June, but would not appear in a game before being DFA’d shortly after. Making seven appearances (six starts) from mid-May to mid-July with the Jumbo Shrimp, Madero would post a combined 3.51 ERA across 25.2 innings.

Called-up to Miami once again in late-July, Madero would work a scoreless inning of relief on July 23 before being DFA’d shortly after. Out-righted to Triple-A Jacksonville days later, Madero would go-on to post an impressive three outings (one start) to begin the month of August posting a 2.25 ERA across 12 innings before being called-up on August 17.

Making a relief appearance on August 18, Madero was DFA’d the next day where he would re-join the Jumbo Shrimp for an impressive final stretch in Jacksonville. Making six relief appearances during that span, four of which were scoreless, the 24-year-old posted a combined 2.25 ERA across 16 innings.

Called back up to Miami for the final time on September 22, Madero would go-on to make two relief appearances with the Marlins in late-September before being DFA’d on October 1.

Madero would make a total of 17 appearances (seven starts) with Triple-A Jacksonville during the 2021 season where he posted an impressive 7-3 record with a 2.84 ERA across 57 innings. Across that span, the right-hander would post a 1.228 WHIP, as well as striking out 58 batters with 24 walks.

Madero would also make six total relief appearances with the Miami Marlins during the 2021 campaign where he posted a 9.00 ERA with eight walks and four strikeouts across 12 innings.
