Miami Marlins: Christian Yelich trade, where are they now?

On January 25, 2018, the Miami Marlins traded their third outfielder in a little less than two months when the club sent Christian Yelich to the Milwaukee Brewers, and in return received four prospects. Where are each of those players involved in this deal at now?

Before we look at the prospects involved however, we have to take a look at Yelich first. A first round pick by the-then Florida Marlins in 2010, Yelich spent five seasons with the club at the major league level from 2013-17 as the club’s everyday left fielder, which also seeing time in center.

Appearing in a total of 643 combined games with Miami, Yelich slashed a combined .290/.369/.432 with 59 home runs, 293 RBI’s, and 72 stolen bases during his time with the Marlins. Winning a Gold Glove in 2014, as well as a Silver Slugger in 2016, Yelich also ranks among the Top 10 in Marlins history in notable statistical categories such as WAR, AVG, OBP, Runs, Hits, and Doubles.

Joining the Brewers in 2018, Yelich went on to win the NL MVP in his first season in Milwaukee, as well as finishing second in 2019 after two phenomenal seasons. The now 30-year-old has struggled at times across the last two years, but has had a successful tenure with the Brewers overall.

Where are the Miami Marlins prospects from the Christian Yelich trade now?

As for the four prospects the Miami Marlins received for Yelich, here is a short look at where each of them are now.

Lewis Brinson

Brinson instantly became Miami’s top overall prospect after the deal was completed, and made his Marlins debut in 2018 at the major league level where the outfielder appeared in 109 games. After appearing in a combined 320 games with Miami from 2018-21 where he posted a combined .573 OPS with 23 home runs, Brinson was DFA’d by the club earlier this offseason where the 27-year-old is currently a free agent.

Monte Harrison

Harrison was rated right behind Brinson as Miami’s No. 2 prospect, but did not make his major league debut until 2020 with Miami. Having appeared in a combined 41 games with the Marlins at the major league level the last two seasons, Harrison is still with Miami where the outfielder spent a majority of the 2021 season with Triple-A Jacksonville.

Isan Diaz

Diaz was rated among Miami’s Top 10 prospects at the time of the deal, and made his major league debut with the club in 2019. Having appeared in a total of 145 games from 2019-21, Diaz is still with the Marlins where the infielder has posted a combined .562 OPS with nine home runs.

Jordan Yamamoto

The right-hander was rated among the lower-half of the Marlins Top 30 prospects, and made his major league debut with Miami in 2019. After posting a combined 6.20 ERA across 90 IP from 2019-20, Yamamoto was traded to the Mets on February 1, 2021 where he is currently still with New York.
