The player from Miami Marlins history that we will be looking at this week is Dan Haren, a three-time All-Star who spent the first half of the 2015 campaign with the organization, which turned out to be the right-hander’s final season of his 13-year career.
Looking at the Miami Marlins career of Dan Haren
Originally a second round pick by the St. Louis Cardinals back in the 2001 MLB Draft out of Pepperdine, Haren would make his major league debut with the organization in 2003, remaining in St. Louis through the 2004 season. Traded to the Oakland Athletics at season’s end, Haren would remain in Oakland from 2005-07 before being traded again to the Arizona Diamondbacks where he spent from 2008-10, making two All-Star teams.
Traded to the Los Angeles Angels in July of 2010, the right-hander would spend from 2010-12 with the Angels, as well as the 2013 season with the Washington Nationals and 2014 with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
After the conclusion of the 2014 season, Haren would be traded by the Dodgers to the Miami Marlins on December 11, 2014 as part of a multi-player deal that also sent Miguel Rojas, Dee Gordon, and cash to Miami. In return, Los Angeles would receive Andrew Heaney, Chris Hatcher, Enrique Hernandez, and Austin Barnes.
Beginning the year in the Marlins starting rotation, Haren would go-on to make a total of 21 starts with Miami across the first half of the 2015 season. Across that span, the right-hander would post a 7-7 record with a 3.42 ERA and 1.093 WHIP across 129 IP, as well as striking out 88 batters to 25 walks with a 2.0 WAR.
Haren would be traded by the Marlins alongside cash to the Chicago Cubs on July 31, 2015, a deal that sent Ivan Pineyro and Elliot Soto to Miami. Haren would elect free agency at season’s end, and as mentioned previously, last pitched in 2015.
