Miami Marlins: Making a trade proposal with the Pittsburgh Pirates

It is no secret that multiple teams around baseball have interest in trading for Pittsburgh Pirates centerfielder Bryan Reynolds, a group that includes the Miami Marlins.

One of the top young outfielders in baseball, the 27-year-old is coming off a phenomenal 2021 season with the Pirates in which Reynolds made his first-career All-Star appearance, as well as posting a .912 OPS across 159 games. In addition to that, Reynolds also posted a few other notable numbers such as an MLB-leading eight triples, 24 home runs, and an 11.6 BB%.

Having slashed a combined .290/.368/.490 across his first three major league seasons, Reynolds is a proven option offensively, and is a no-brainer trade candidate for a team that needs help in centerfield. Also under control through the 2025 season, it’s easy to see why Reynolds will be in high-demand if made available.

With the Marlins having already made one trade so far this offseason with Pittsburgh to acquire catcher Jacob Stallings, why not make another for Reynolds?

As expected in a deal for Reynolds, it will likely be a very-high price for the 27-year-old outfielder, but the Marlins have the pieces to get a deal done, as well as potentially out-bid other teams if needed. However, even with these three names listed above, it still might not be enough .

The Marlins should only consider trading Pablo Lopez, a controllable starter who is entering his fifth major league season, for a player the caliber and under team-control of Reynolds. While some Miami fans may not want to include Lopez, the Pirates would surely demand either him, or one-to-two of the Marlins multiple top pitching prospects in any potential deal for Reynolds.

As for the other players involved, both Burdick and Encarnacion are two Top 30 outfield prospects, and both could potentially make their major league debuts sometime in 2022.

As mentioned previously however, this deal still might not be enough to land Reynolds, but the Miami Marlins do have the pieces to get a deal done. Will they do it at any point this offseason?
