The Miami Marlins made a significant addition to their lineup on Saturday night by signing one of the top overall power bats available in free agency.

Miami Marlins sign 2021 World Series MVP Jorge Soler

According to MLB Network insider Marc Feinsand, the Miami Marlins have signed free agent outfielder Jorge Soler to a three-year deal.

Feinsand also mentions that the deal is worth $36 million, and includes two opt-outs after the 2022 and 2023 season.

A 30-year-old outfielder, Soler is coming off a 2021 season in which he struggled for the first half of the season with the Kansas City Royals, slashing a combined .192/.288/.370 with 13 home runs across 94 games. Traded to the Atlanta Braves at the deadline however, things would fully click offensively for Soler where he would go-on to hit 14 home runs with an .882 OPS across 55 games in Atlanta.

As mentioned previously as well, Soler played a key role in the Braves run to the World Series last season, earning World Series MVP honors after hitting three home runs with six RBI’s in the six-game series against Houston.

An eight-year MLB veteran, Soler originally began his career with the Chicago Cubs back in 2012 as a 20-year-old, and would quickly reach Top 100 prospect status where he was considered one of the Top 100 prospects in baseball from 2013-15. Making his MLB debut with Chicago in 2014, Soler would remain with the Cubs through the 2016 season where he was traded to Kansas City that December.

Included during Soler’s time in Kansas City was a phenomenal 2019 season in which the outfielder led the American League with 48 home runs across 162 games while also driving in 117 runs to finish 21st in the AL MVP race.

A bat capable of producing anywhere from 30-35+ home runs a season, Soler will likely start at DH for the Marlins, while also a candidate to see time in right field.
