We wrote about Jesús Sanchez not that long ago and things aren’t exactly getting better. Jesús Sanchez is not only no longer batting at the top of the batting order, but his production keeps dropping and he’s starting to look lost at the plate.
Jesús Sanchez is really struggling as the Miami Marlins CF.
Jesús Sanchez is currently batting a shockingly bad .207/.270/.345 after a hot start. This production comes with a .280 BABIP so unfortunately it’s not exactly a fluke. He’s just genuinely not hitting right now. He also has an 88.7 Exit Velocity which indicates a decline in his early season power (it was over 90).
What’s going on? Jesús Sanchez’s strikeout rate has jumped up significantly all the way to 30.2% and he’s walking at a 6.3% rate. He was never particularly good at not striking out, but he’s just not improving at the moment.
An important thing that I’d like to mention is that he is still only 24 years old, so it’s obviously way too early to give up on him. The question is whether he needs help to get his hitting under control. He needs to get his confidence back as well, as I suspect that his current slump is not helping him in that department.
Demoting Jesús Sánchez doesn’t mean giving up on him and is actually the smart thing to do in order to get his production back. I strongly suspect that hitting well in the Minors (as I expect him to), will get the early season version of Sanchez back on The Fush.
