The Miami Marlins City Connect gear is still awesome
The Miami Marlins City Connect uniforms just had their ‘birthday,’ and they’re just as cool today as they were when they were unveiled a year ago.
For the most part, the MLB Nike City Connect uniforms have been a huge hit – and that’s certainly true when it comes to the Sugar Kings-inspired Miami Marlins City Connect uniforms.
At the time they were revealed, team VP of experience and innovation, Michael Shaw, told MLB.com: “Our City Connect uniform seeks to blend sports and lifestyle fashion, remixing the Sugar Kings’ stylish uniform that embodies the unique sense of energy, passion and swagger from our community.”
The Sugar Kings were a Cuban baseball team from 1954-1960. They had aspirations of becoming the first MLB franchise located outside of the US and adopted the motto: “un paso más y llegamos” which means “one more step and we arrive.”
They fell short of that goal, with the franchise eventually moving to Jacksonville with a new name and now the franchise is Miami’s Triple-A club. But their impact on baseball and the culture cannot be understated.
With that in mind, it’s great knowing the Marlins really knocked it out of the park with their City Connect gear.
