The Miami Marlins haven’t been doing so well lately. We are 33-40 and 13 games out of first place in the division. We are still good enough to be a playoff team as I wrote before, and are 37-36 based on our Pythagorean record. The problem is that we are also basically 10 games out of the final Wild Card spot. Things aren’t looking good…

The Miami Marlins might miss the playoffs this season.

Is there still hope for the Miami Marlins this season or is it over? There’s still hope as Tram’s have come back from worse to still make the playoffs. Like Yogi Berra once said: “it ain’t over ‘till it’s over!”. We weren’t even expected to make the playoffs in the first place!

What’s the schedule looking like for the Miami Marlins going forward? Luckily other than a 4 game series with the New York Mets next month, we have a relatively easy schedule in July… 4 games against the Washington Nationals, 4 games against the Cincinnati Reds, 3 games against the Philadelphia Phillies, 3 games against the Pittsburgh Pirates and 2 games against the Los Angeles Angels.

What if the Miami Marlins win most of those games? If other teams ahead of The Fish don’t win as much, we’re going to get closer to that final Wild Card spot.

What does August have in store for us? 3 games against the Cincinnati Reds, 3 games against the Philadelphia Phillies and 3 games against the Chicago Cubs to start the month. That’s all VERY good. Perhaps we can get to within a few games of that final Wild Card spot?!

Things get worse after that however… we have 4 games against the Atlanta Braves, 3 games against the Los Angeles Dodgers and 3 games against the San Diego Padres. The Atlanta series is especially important for obvious reasons.

So can the Miami Marlins make the playoffs? Can we? It’s not going to be easy, but there’s a path to still make it there. The question is can The Fish pull it off? Can we win the games that we should be winning? That last sentence will entirely decide how our season turns out.
