Sorry, folks but I couldn’t resist the alliteration here in the title of this article. At any rate, young ace Max Meyer will get to show Marlins fans why he’s a top MLB prospect starting this weekend in the series with the Philadelphia Phillies.
Max Meyer: University of Minnesota man about to become Marlin Maniac
Max Meyer earned his callup from Jacksonville this week and will have a chance to show off his ‘stuff” starting this weekend. Marlins ace Sandy Alcantara is slated to start the Phillies series off this Friday and Meyer will be arriving in Miami in time to possibly make his MLB debut showing this weekend. The weekend series between the Marlins and the Phillies might as well be called the ‘wild card war” because both teams are in a dogfight to stay relevant in the NL wild card race with the Marlins holding a 43-45 record and just a few games off the pace right now.
Right handed starter Max Meyer has made his way from being selected third by the Marlins in the 2020 MLB draft out of the University of Minnesota and immediately got to work with a promotion all the way up to AAA Jacksonville before the end of the 2021 minor league season. Meyer has posted very impressive numbers in AAA this year and has a very respectable 1.72 ERA and 39 punch outs in 31 innings. However, Meyer suffered a recent setback in May and was later diagnosed with right ulnar nerve issues which shut down his throwing completely.
Meyer has received a clean bill of health and his track will lead him straight to loanDepot Park this weekend as a Major League Baseball pitcher. Meyer’s strongest pitch is his trademark slider which is considered by many to be the best around in recent drafts. While Meyer has been
developing his fastball which can be his secondary weapon, his slider will no doubt be driving big league batters crazy in a matter of days. Welcome to the Show, Max Meyer.
