Miami Marlins: Checking in on prospects from the 2022 Arizona Fall League

For eight Miami Marlins’ prospects in particular, the 2022 season has not quite yet come to an end as each are currently playing out west in the Arizona Fall League, with all also with the Mesa Solar Sox. Checking in on those names, how has each performed so far during the 2022 AFL? (NOTE: Stats as of Tuesday, October 18 – Tyler Eckberg has not played yet) 

Which Miami Marlins prospects are playing in the 2022 Arizona Fall League?

Jose Salas

Miami’s No. 5 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, Salas has enjoyed a solid start to the AFL season, slashing .219/.324/.313 across nine games. Salas has also driven in three runs, and has played all nine games defensively at shortstop.

Joe Mack

Also ranked within the Marlins Top 10 prospects at No. 9, Mack has impressed through eight games where the 19-year-old is slashing .269/.406/.654. Staring seven games at catcher, Mack has also homered three times and driven in four runs.

Victor Mesa Jr

The Marlins final ranked prospect playing in the 2022 AFL, Mesa, who is No. 13 in Miami’s system, has been one of the biggest talking points across the past couple of weeks. Across eight games, Mesa has slashed .207/.303/.448 with two HR and seven RBI.

Chandler Jozwiak 

Coming off an impressive 2022 season, Jozwiak, a former 13th round pick in 2021, has made four relief appearances for the Solar Sox. Across a combined 6.1 IP, the left-hander owns a 1.42 ERA and a 9:2 K:BB ratio.

Cameron Barstad

Barstad, a former sixth round pick in the 2018 MLB Draft, has appeared in only one game so far this fall. The 21-year-old catcher has also collected a hit in his lone at-bat.

Justin Fall

Fall, a former 17th round pick in 2021 out of Arizona State, has made two starts up to this point with the Solar Sox. Across those two starts, the left-hander owns a 1-0 record with a 7.88 ERA and a 4:4 K:BB ratio during 8 IP.

Holt Jones

Jones, who was also taken in the 2021 MLB Draft by Miami (14th round), has also made three starts so far this fall. Across 7 IP, Jones owns an 0-1 record with an 10.29 ERA and a 4:9 K:BB ratio.
