The Miami Marlins have a unique opportunity to make a miniature offseason splash. The historically quiet offseason players, generally due to their budgeting restraints, are not a threat to sign, or even pursue any of the top free agents. This is even more true in the midst of their rebuild.

However, the international player market represents an opportunity for a clear improvement in Miami, particularly in the form of recently posted KBO infielder Hye-Seong Kim (not to be confused with MLB veteran and former KBO star Ha-Seong Kim).

Why should the Marlins consider Ha-Seong Kim?

1) His Defensive Wizardry

There are several interesting answers! First off, Kim is a defensive specialist. The infielder won back-to-back-to-back KBO Gold Glove awards from 2018-2020. While most of his experience (657 games) has come at second base, Kim also has significant experience at shortstop (284 games).

The speedy infielder has the metrics and skills to shift to third base and even translate to the outfield (he has KBO experience in both). He is the ultimate utility weapon on defense.

2) His Speed

Kim's quickness is not only an asset on defense. He is also a proven weapon on the base paths. The International star has 211 stolen bases in seven KBO seasons, averaging an impressive 30+ swipes per year. There is no reason this would not translate to MLB.
