I recently wrote an article about why, depending on the price, the Miami Marlins should consider a reunion with former star Starling Marte. While the veteran's bat and upside would be a fun addition to the club, the spirit behind this move would be to supply their young core of outfielders (Jesus Sanchez, Griffin Conine, and Kyle Stowers) with an experienced mentor to help with their overall development.

Unfortunately, the price for Marte could be high (in terms of finances). However, there are several readily available players who could fit the role of veteran mentor.

1) Jose Iglesias

Speaking of former New York Mets... The 2024 breakout infielder would be an ideal fit with the Marlins. Iglesias performed well the moment he hit the major league roster last season.

The 34-year-old posted a stellar .337 batting average and .381 on-base percentage while adding exceptional defense at second and third base. While some regression to his average may be expected, the journeyman is a real threat to hit above the lofty .300 mark again next year.

Additionally, Iglesias' clubhouse presence was invaluable for New York last year. Everything, from his steady defense, to his calm hitting demeanor, to his contagious clubhouse joy, to his OMG breakout song, was excellent.

Imagine how a player like Iglesias could help young stars like Xavier Edwards, Connor Norby, Deyvison De Los Santos, and more.
