It seems that there's a lot of news about some of the division rivals of the Miami Marlins. As we watch a former Marlin look for an extension with his current team, and find out some positive news about The Fish's prospects... it's time for more news. This time involving the National League's Gold Glove award nominations. I'm specifically talking about Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Bryce Harper.

Miami Marlins rival superstar has been nominated for a National League Gold Glove award.

Will there ever be a day when the Miami Marlins can spend on the top free agents? Will Bruce Sherman ever open up his pockets? Or will we need to see the team be under new ownership? I still hope that one day The Fish can be like Inter Miami or Miami Heat during the LeBron James era, taking our great city by storm and being the most popular and successful team in the league.

The Fish never had owners willing to truly spend, and so weren't even players for Bryce Harper. The superstar of course signed with the division rival Philadelphia Phillies prior to the 2019 season. He's been a beast for them throughout his time on the team. He's batted an impressive .285/.391/.534 since that first seaosn with the team.

An interesting caveat about Harper, is that to accommodate his team he switched from RF to first base. There were no public arguments or complaints which I always admired. He did what's best for the team and happens to be the team's superstar. That's what we need on the Marlins. Anyway, let's talk about the issue at hand. Bryce Harper has been nominated for the National League Gold Glove award at first base.

I don't know if Harper will win the award, but it's quite an accomplishment. To be fair first base is not typically seen as a premiere defensive position, but there are still good and bad defenders at the position. Bryce Harper is clearly one of the best in the game there. Time will tell if it will lead to him winning said award.
