Miami Marlins could lead an interesting change

I've written quite a bit, about how Miami Marlins division rivals the Tampa Bay Rays are affected by losing their stadium Tropicana Field due to the recent hurricane. It certainly looks like they will have to play elsewhere and maybe even relocate. I noticed some interesting comments on social media, that made me think of an interesting solution. What if they moved temporarily to Oakland?!

Relocation could be in store for the Miami Marlins rivals.

Could the Miami Marlins end up as the only team in Florida once again? Could the team go back to being the Florida Marlins? You never know at this point. Oakland just lost the Oakland Athletics, who are now playing in Sacramento and are known as just the Athletics. What if the Tampa Bay Rays actually replaced them and moved to Oakland? Even if just temporarily?

Let's skip past whether that's even remotely a realistic possibility. Let's suppose that the Rays actually move to Oakland? This would force a divisional realignment, as there's just no way that they can continue playing in the American League East. The Rays would have to presumably move to the AL West, that would add an extra team to that division. It would also leave the AL East without a team. The AL Central would have to give up a team to the AL East, and the AL West would have to send a team to the AL Central. I can't see any scenario where something like that works.

It makes more sense for the Rays to actually switch leagues and move to the NL West. This would allow the Colorado Rockies to move to the NL Central and push the Pittsburgh Pirates into the NL East. Having both Pennsylvania teams in the same division would make a lot of sense to me. The team switching leagues and moving to the AL East could be the Washington Nationals.

Washington D.C. has traditionally been an American League city. The Washington Senators won the first ever World Series in the city back in 1924. The Nationals still celebrate that title, so despite winning one in 2019, why not move to the American League. This would also allow them to be in the same division as their main rivals the Baltimore Orioles. What do YOU think? It won't happen, but fun to think about.
