Option #4: Cal Quantrill
Quantrill is a unique addition to this list because of his age. The 29-year-old is the only player who could factor into the Miami Marlins' plans beyond the 2025 campaign.
The six-year veteran showed signs of promise while a part of the Cleveland Guardians pitching factory. His best season came in 2021 when he threw 149.2 innings with a 2.89 ERA and 121 strikeouts. He followed up with similar quality in 2022.
A move to the Rockies and the historically hitter-friendly Coors Field in 2024 did not do Quantrill's statistics any favors. However, he was still able to post a solid 4.98 ERA across 148 innings.
While his ceiling as an innings eater may not be as high as some of the veterans on this list, he is still a safe bet for 140+ innings of work in 2025. His $12.3 projected market value is also on par with the established mark for starters.
Signing Quantrill to a one or two-year contract would give the veteran a chance to reenter a franchise with a strong pitching development system. It is the Marlins' best low-cost bet that combines innings pitched, longer-term value, and potential future trade value.
