The Miami Marlins have made their first significant move of the offseason. Unsurprisingly, President Peter Bendix and Miami's front office elected the trade route, sending Jake Burger to the Texas Rangers in exchange for minor league infielders Echedry Vargas and Max Acosta. Lefty pitcher Brayan Mendoza is also headed to the Marlins in the exchange.

How did the Marlins fare in this trade? And what should be made of the trio of prospects that Miami received in return? Let's discuss the positives, negatives, and full prospect profiles of Vargas, Acosta, and Mendoza.

Positive #1: The Infield Logjam

Miami's pre-trade depth chart was truly fascinating. The club lacked a natural shortstop despite having a surplus of second basemen. The roster also had a noticeable logjam at first base with Burger, Deyvison De Los, Agustin Ramirez, and Jonah Bride all expected to compete for limited at-bats.

The DH spot would have cleared up some of this tension. However, Miami had too many good players vying for limited playing time. Moving Burger for prospect capital not only improves the farm system. It allows the depth chart room to breathe while simultaneously freeing up spots for the young talent to learn and develop.
