The Miami Marlins have some stars to look forward to, but with all of the recent bullpen signings, maybe The Fish should get in on the trend. Kenley Jansen is still out there. Why can't The Fish go after him? It makes perfect sense and there's more to this as well. Are you ready to take a look at why this makes sense?

Kenley Jansen is a good bullpen target for the Miami Marlins.

Kenley Jansen is probably not going to be a Hall of Famer, but he's still one of the best closers in the game. He pitched for the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2010 to 2021. He pitched for the Atlanta Braves in 2022, and he pitched for the Boston Red Sox in both the 2023 and the 2024 seasons.

In his time with LA, Jansen won the World Series in the 2020 season. Overall for that run, he pitched to a 2.37 ERA/2.37 FIP, with 13.0 K/9 and 2.6 BB/9 in 701 games and 705.0 innings pitched. During that time, he accumulated 18.7 WAR and 350 saves. He's easily one of the greatest closers in the history of the Dodgers franchise. They had to move on from him after the 2021 season however, as they believed that he was past his prime.

Pitching for Atlanta in 2022, Jansen pitched to a 3.38 ERA/3.21 FIP, with 12.0 K/9 and 3.1 BB/9 in 65 games and 64.0 innings pitched. He was worth 1.0 WAR for that performance. In his time with Boston, Kenley Jansen pitched to a 3.44 ERA/3.30 FIP, with 10.3 K/9 and 3.4 BB/9 in 105 games and 99.1 innings pitched. He accumulated 56 saves and was worth 2.1 WAR for that performance.

The Miami Marlins could sign Kenley Jansen to a one-year deal to close games in the 2025 season. He can then be traded at the Trade Deadline for a prospect return, if he pitches well of course. I do expect him to at least be a decent enough to receive some type of a useful return. Peter Bendix should definitely look into signing him.
