MLB.com recently revealed one breakout prospect for every club. The Miami Marlins had #13 prospect Kemp Alderman listed as their representative.
Alderman, a 22-year-old outfielder, is projected to make the MLB roster in late 2025-early 2026. His high power is similar to that of current outfielder Kyle Stowers. His massive 6'3", 250lb frame clearly aligns with Peter Bendix's preferred player type.
The 2023 second-round draft pick has also drawn comparisons to MLB veteran Hunter Renfroe. His swing is also similar to Baltimore Orioles' top prospect Coby Mayo. If he continues to develop at a healthy pace, he has the upside to produce 20-30 homers at the next level.
While Alderman has struggled with strikeouts, his improved contact abilities led to a respectable .242 batting average in the minors last season. On paper, he has the batting skills to translate to the major leagues.
Defensively, Alderman is surprisingly quick for a player of his size. He lacks the elite speed to be a viable option in centerfield. However, his athleticism, agility, and strong throwing arm (he recorded time as a pitcher at Ole Miss) would make him a plus defender in either outfield spot.
Interestingly, he also has experience as a catcher in high school and college. While it is unlikely the Fish would consider developing the star at a secondary position, this flexibility is noteworthy.
Ultimately, identifying Alderman as a potential breakout star was a good find by MLB.com. He has clear MLB skills. He fits Bendix's mold. And he is within a year from potentially being called up. Kemp Alderman is a name that Marlins fans should begin to familiarize themselves with.
