Luis Arraez is hitting .400 and chasing history

The Miami Marlins second baseman, Luis Arraez is on the way to cementing his name in the Major League Baseball annals of history. Arraez hitting .400 is quite an accomplishment at this point in the season, and he is not only chasing that history but others as well. We will detail the two things he could very well make history with, and the one that he won't catch.

Luis Arraez can hit .400

There have been only a handful of people who have hit .400 in all of baseball history, and if he accomplishes that feat it will be the 14th time since 1900. The last player to hit .400 or more in a season was Ted Williams in 1941, and Tony Gwynn in 1994 was the most recent player who got close, hitting .394.

Luis Arraez will have a great chance as the Miami Marlins lead-off hitter to make the .400 mark and add his mark in baseball history. Arraez is in the 24th percentile in chase rate and therefore in the 100th percentile on strikeout rate, and that reason alone shows he is able to make the .400 mark. The last reason why he can make .400 is his sweet spot percentage is 44.5% up from 41.7% and Arraez' spray chart of hits shows he hits the ball where its pitched as he has a very even spread across all parts of the field.

Luis Arraez will break the Marlins single-season multi-hit game record

Luis Arraez should break another record this season with the rate he is going. The Miami Marlins player with the most multi-hit games in a season, according to the Miami Herald, is Juan Pierre with 70 in the 2004 season. Arraez currently leads Major League Baseball in multi-hit games with 27, tied with Freddie Freeman.

In June alone, Arraez has had six multi-hit games in the nine total games he has played with a total of 18. Arraez had 33 hits in May and as such he is more than on track to surpass that this month. Keeping up with that pace that he is on in June, it would not be a long shot to say he will have more than 35 by July, which would put him on pace with beating the Miami Marlins record.

Luis Arraez will have a tough time breaking the single season hit record

Miami Marlins second baseman Luis Arraez will have to have an uncanny second half of the season to get close to breaking the single season hit record. Ichiro Suzuki holds the record for hits in a season with 262, which he accomplished in 2004.

As it stands now Arraez has 90 hits, and would have to have more at-bats than he currently gets to have a chance at 262. Arraez could get close to it but if he breaks that record he would almost certainly break the .400 mark at the same time. It would be tough but I think all fans will agree, it would be amazing to see.
