Could the Miami Marlins be the next White Sox Sale Shopper?

The White Sox have made lots of moves signaling a rebuild

The Chicago White Sox have traded for Houston Astros catching prospect Korey Lee and Angels Catching prospect Edgar Quero, which gives them two top-five ranked prospects.  The Miami Marlins could cash in on the White Sox sale at catcher if those transactions are a sign of a full team sale, and Marlins fans wouldn’t mind it at all.

The Marlins have been looking for a catcher to deepen their struggling roster.  Yasmani Grandal could be on the move and could be an added bat to the Marlins roster.  Grandal is a free agent after this season so it only makes sense for the White Sox to trade him, especially after getting two big prospects from other organizations.  The signal seems clear to me that Grandal will be gone before the deadline is up, so could the Marlins cash in?

Grandal has a lot more power than the Marlins current catchers and the Florida native might welcome a homecoming.  Grandal has 8 home runs and 29 RBI on the season while slashing .251/.318/.384 with a .701 OPS.  He has a .303 BAbip which is the highest of his career outside his first year.   As a comparison, Jacob Stallings is hitting .201 with 1 home run and 12 RBI and Nick Fortes is hitting .212 with 4 home runs and 19 RBI.

The Marlins would have another solid bottom half of the lineup hitter if they can add Grandal and if they also can add a power-hitting third baseman then they will be set.  The Marlins have been looking for catching help for the last month and it seems the White Sox are ready to deal all their pending free-agent players, so why not take advantage?  Could he be the next Marlins five or six-hole hitter?

The Marlins could even look into adding Grandal and Tim Anderson but I would not be in favor of Anderson as his stats over the past year show he is struggling.   He is not only struggling but is nowhere close to last year's production and homerless.  I could be wrong but it seems Anderson is on the decline, either way, it would be nice to see Grandal in Marlins colors sometime soon.   Let’s hope Kim can make a deal. Could Kim work some magic and make an even better deal and land Grandal and Keynan Middleton, time will tell, but that would make their bullpen pretty amazing.
